TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Healthy Kids Corporation board of directors has approved five health plan contracts offering health insurance for Florida children. Four health plans will continue to provide subsidized coverage for qualified low-income children, and one health plan will continue to offer full-pay coverage for families with household income above 200 percent of the federal poverty level, or more than $49,200 for a family of four.
The Florida Healthy Kids subsidized plan currently serves 164,000 children from age 5 through the end of age 18. These families will continue to pay $15 or $20 per month based on household size and income. The subsidized plan will continue to be offered by Amerigroup Florida, Inc.; Aetna Better Health of Florida; UnitedHealthcare of Florida, Inc.; and WellCare of Florida d/b/a/ Staywell Kids, effective October 1, 2017. At least two options will continue to be available in every Florida county.
Sunshine State Health Plan, the current statewide Florida Healthy Kids full-pay provider serving 12,400 children, will continue to offer full-pay health insurance for families not eligible for subsidized coverage. The full-pay plan premium will change from $220 to $230 a month including dental and from $205 to $215 a month without dental per child, effective December 1, 2017 for coverage in January.
Florida Healthy Kids delivers peace of mind and value for families. Both the subsidized plan and full-pay plan offer comprehensive, child-centered coverage for doctor visits, immunizations, prescriptions, emergencies, surgeries, dental and the services children need at each stage of their growth and development.
The Corporation has begun notifying families about the full-pay change in premium.
