“After thoughtful and prolonged conversation, the Florida Healthy Kids Corporation Board of Directors voted on June 11 to award a new contract to Sunshine Health to provide children’s health insurance options to families not eligible for subsidized CHIP coverage.
“The requirements of the Affordable Care Act have unfortunately resulted in significantly higher premiums for Florida families trying to retain coverage for their children, notwithstanding that the Act's stated goal is to allow more Americans to gain access to affordable health insurance. Sadly, the reality for most of our families is that the Affordable Care Act has made it more expensive and more difficult.
“The Board also previously voted to approve contracts for four health plans to provide options for subsidized CHIP coverage. For these plans, families will continue to pay $15 or $20 per month. Companies offered CHIP contracts are Amerigroup Florida, Inc., Coventry Healthcare of Florida, Inc., United Healthcare of Florida, Inc. and Wellcare Healthplans Inc., d/b/a/ Staywell Kids.
“We look forward to working with the companies that have been selected to provide quality health care coverage for Florida’s children.”
